April 26-28, 2024

Join Gorge local Brian Chambers for three days of landscape photography, exploration and good times in the spectacular Columbia River Gorge.  The workshop begins at 4pm on Friday April 26th through 12pm Sunday April 28th, 2024.   The cost of the workshop is only $895. This weekend was chosen to maximize our chances  to capture peak blossom and wildflower conditions in the gorge and will utilize Brian's  local knowledge to find the best locations. All participants will get plenty of one on one teaching time with Brian to help you take your photography to the next level. As always the delightful Kelly Chambers will be assisting with every facet of the workshop!

Itinerary: The workshop will be centered in beautiful Hood River OR and the exact itinerary will be decided depending on weather conditions, flower conditions and the interest of the participants.   For over 25 years, Brian has lived full time in Hood River acquiring extensive experience exploring and photographing the Columbia Gorge.  The class will use his local knowledge to help us decide the optimal locations.  This will be a photography intensive experience and will likely involve shooting from very early in the morning until late in the evening.  The workshop will involve driving to locations that may be an hour or more away.

Possible Itinerary example:  Friday afternoon we meet up at 301 Gallery at 4pm to get acquainted and go over the plan for the weekend and discuss our goals of the workshop.  At approximately, 5:30 pm we head out to a viewpoint to capture the sun as it sets over the Columbia River Gorge.  Saturday morning we get up early to head to my favorite place to shoot springtime sunrise in the gorge.  We hopefully will have dazzling fields of wildflowers in the foreground as the sun rises over the hills in the eastern gorge. After a late breakfast together we head out to a rarely visited or photographed wildflower area with views of Mt Hood. It is not unusual to not see another person while exploring this area.   A quick break to rest in the afternoon and depending on interest in the group and conditions, we head out to shoot a waterfall or head further east to capture more wildflowers and the sunset behind Mt Hood.  Sunday morning we again start early to capture the beautiful orchards of the Hood River valley with Mt Hood rising above the blossoms.  After breakfast, we meet at my home with its double mountain view to have a brief class discussing post processing and we can share some of our favorite images from the weekend before saying our goodbyes.

What is included: The price of $895 includes only photography instruction and guiding to the locations only.   Class size will be limited to students to allow for plenty of one on one time.

What is not included:  Lodging, transportation, meals, drinks or any day use or parking passes. Participants will be required to drive to shooting locations and are encouraged to carpool.

Requirements:  Any level photographer is welcome to attend with any type of gear. We will not be doing any extended hikes, however you should be comfortable walking at least two or more miles a day. The gorge has variable terrain including uneven ground and unstable/slippery surfaces, cliffs, etc. The Gorge can be a dangerous place and students are responsible for their own safety at all times.  Please contact Brian with any questions or concerns.

Hotel: We have negotiated a special price with a local hotel with a central location in Hood River that will be our base of operations.  A link to the hotel  will be sent to you once you have signed up.  You are also welcome to stay at any location of your choosing.  Hood River is a very popular location and lodging can be expensive and in short supply, so we recommend booking early.  Please contact Brian if you have any questions.

Cancellation Policy:  Brian reserves the right to cancel the workshop in the event of extreme or unsafe conditions such as fire, pandemic, illness of instructors or with three or fewer registrations. In this event ,you will get a full refund. Attendees who cancel prior to February 28th will receive a 75% refund of their fees if we are able to fill their spot. Cancellations later than that will not be eligible for a refund.

About us: Brian and Kelly have been living  full time in the Columbia River Gorge since 1997.

Brian resumed his interest in photography in 1999. He is an award winning photographer, member of one of the premier art galleries in Hood River (301 Gallery) and has been published in several magazines. He has been teaching photography classes and workshops in the Columbia River Gorge for several years.  When not out photographing, he recently retired veterinarian, home remodeler and spends as much time as possible outside in nature enjoying the beauty of Oregon.

Kelly helps with logistics ie meal and photo shoot locations along with general amusement for Brian's workshops. Although not a photographer, she does like to dabble in photography with her iPhone. She is also recently retired (former registered dietitian/nutritionist) and loves to be playing outdoors as much as possible.

Some images and testimonials  from recent  workshops

"The Bandon Coast Workshop was an awesome experience led by two very experienced, knowledgeable and entertaining photographers. Brian Chambers and Steven Michael took us to amazing sites and worked with each of the workshop participants so that we got the best shots. I appreciated their flexibility on selecting our sites and how long we stayed at each place. I never felt rushed throughout the weekend. I highly recommend any workshop these two offer. You will definitively come away with numerous photographs that you would be to frame and hang on your wall".- Pat

"I highly recommend any course run by Brian and Steve. I took their 2.5 day course in Bandon in 2021 and it was excellent. I had taken a 6 day course run by another company earlier in the year. In Brian and Steve's course they were there to teach you new techniques and help you resolve any problems you were having. In the other course the instructor was just a tour guide and did very little teaching. If you are looking for someone to be right there helping you improve your photographic skills, then any course taught by Brian and Steve is for you. The course I took with Brian and Steve was thoroughly enjoyable and I met some really nice people".-Marvin

"Wanna shout out and say a HUGE thank you for wonderful presentation.  The group absolutely loved, loved, loved it!!"  -Noel

"I thought you were the best instructor ever." -Lois

"If you have a passion to become a better landscape photographer, enrolling in one of Brian Chambers photo workshops you won’t be disappointed. The personal attention one receives from his three person team is unparalleled! Brian also has over twenty years living in the Hood River Oregon area, so he knows all the good spots to go to get a great shot; even some secret locations not to disclose to maintain the natural beauty of the area. The level of caring and attention a student receives was amazing. Thanks Brian!" -Marc
